Oakland Township, Michigan French Drain Field in Backyard

Oakland Township French Drain - Daylight Basement WindowsWe’re in Oakland Township, Michigan, installing a French drain system. The home has daylight windows for the basement, and when I cut the grade down to accommodate for the daylight windows, it left the backyard really flat. It’s actually built up on three sides and it gives the water only one option.  It has to funnel its way to the side of the house down to the curb.

That run, that French drain channel right there on the far right, that’s 192 feet to the curb. There are 19 inches of fall, we’ll drain this yard no problem, but we just need to give it a clear path by creating a nice, deep, wide stone channel.

Now, this is a french drain field. We have four parallel pipes. We have a balance tube connecting them all. Some of these French drain runs will carry more water, this balance tube will equalize the pressure.

This system will be contained with a filter fabric, it’ll be maintenance free.

We’ve laid plywood down so that we don’t disturb the homeowner’s turf while installing the French drain system.
