However, an open French drain is only part of the solution; an innovative quad-pack pipe system was implemented to handle the massive volumes of water unleashed during hurricanes. This ingenious design features three perforated and one solid pipe working together to form an effective high-capacity drainage solution. Perforated tubes allow seepage from surrounding soil, while solid pipes are a conduit for surface water collected by catch basins.
The system is carefully sloped with a laser transit to facilitate efficient water flow. This high-precision tool guarantees a uniform downward gradient, enabling gravity to pull water effortlessly away from the house and towards the sump pump—an integral component designed to evacuate any collected water quickly during heavy rainfall.
French Drain Man implemented several additional safeguards to safeguard their system further and halt erosion, such as placing large stones called Riprap along trenches to stabilize soil and reduce heavy water flow erosion. At the same time, cobblestones provided a stable yet attractive surface around drain and discharge areas.
Critter guards were installed at both ends to prevent clogs and pipe damage. These simple yet effective devices prevent rodents and other animals from nesting within them and ensure uninterrupted water flow.

External couplers were used to connect all these pipes seamlessly without obstruction for maximum flow rate; external couplers are essential in avoiding clogs while keeping systems functioning efficiently.
Step 3: Backfilling with Stone:
After installing the pipes, trenches were carefully backfilled using a large-diameter round rock to provide drainage by creating voids for water flow. This stone also provided structural support for the pipes so they wouldn’t collapse under the weight of soil. Furthermore, its size made it less likely to be washed away during heavy rainfall.
STEP 4: Catch Basin Installation:
Catch basins were strategically installed along the solid pipe section of this system to collect surface water runoff and prevent it from entering perforated pipes and clogging up their system. This project utilized custom-designed catch basins to accommodate large volumes of water and sediment for optimal performance during heavy rainfall events.
STEP 5: Sump Pump Installation and Discharge Line:
A powerful sump pump was installed to ensure the French drain could manage its large volume of collected water effectively. Its discharge line led away from the house to an approved drainage area. A special adapter connected a 1.5-inch schedule 40 pipes from the sump pump with a 4-inch corrugated pipe for a smooth transition and maximized flow capacity.
STEP 6: Erosion Control Measures:
To safeguard against erosion and maintain aesthetic appeal, our crew used riprap and cobblestones around drain and discharge areas to prevent soil erosion and maintain aesthetics. Riprap’s large stones help stabilize soil by blocking heavy water flow, while decorative cobblestones add decorative accents and provide extra protection from erosion.
STEP 7: Installation of Critter Guard:
Critter guards were installed at each pipe end to deter rodents and other animals from nesting in pipes and causing blockages. This is a part of any comprehensive French drain system to ensure long-term functionality and prevent costly repairs.
